About

Allan Burton

Independent IT and business consultant, based in Auckland, working with small businesses across New Zealand.

The short version

Why "The Quick Win"

Most small business owners don't lack effort — they lack a translator. Someone who can sit between them and a developer, a router installer, or an IT support contract, and tell them plainly what's actually going on.

That's the job. Allan spends most of his time in the IT space — everything from choosing software to installing routers and sorting out ongoing support — but the constant is the same: working out what a business genuinely needs, then making sure the people delivering it actually deliver it.

The name is a promise about pace, not a promise that everything is simple. Some jobs are quick — an affordable, properly managed website is often the fastest one available. Some need proper project management over months. Either way, you get a straight answer about which one you're in before any money changes hands.

How Allan works

Judgment, not certificates

Allan isn't selling a certification wall. What he brings is pattern recognition — having sat through enough vendor pitches, botched handovers and half-finished builds to know which questions actually matter before a contract is signed.

A framed certificate tells you someone passed a test once. Watching someone stop a client from signing a $30k contract for software they didn't need tells you a lot more.

That's the kind of moment this is built around: catching the expensive mistake before it's made, not after.

Who this is a good fit for

  • Business owners who know something needs to change but not what
  • Teams mid-project with a developer who's gone quiet
  • Anyone about to sign a contract they don't fully understand

Who to send this page to

If you know someone who just said "I have no idea what our IT person is actually doing" — that's the referral. It's the single most common reason people end up on this site.
